Persistent Enterpreneur

Oei Ek Tjong prefer famous name with Eka Tjipta Widjaya. He was born in Quanzou- Chinese at 3 October 1923. At age 9 years old, he moved to Makasar Indonesia with his mother, followed his father that become seller .For 7 days 7 night, eka and his mom sailing to Makasar. They cant eating satisfied food and only slept in the badest place in the ship, because the money only remaining 5 dollar, even from moneylenders that total amount 150 dollar.

After until in Makasar, the reality bussines his father not to good. His father only has a small shop as single source income. This condition that make Eka then to find money. Not to help covered all cost his family, at least want to helped pay bill mother from moneylenders. Every day, eka helped his father seeling. With persistent from less money then saving consistently, he can pay all bill his mother, although needed for 2 years. After complete pay bills, his father shop also running positive, and from these eka can enter school again, although in the end only achieved elementary school because his family turn in recession economy.

Eka that persistent not surrender with condition, after finished school, he return selling biscuit and candy from his father shop. To get buyer, he arounding Makasar with bycycle, he sounding door house to house. Until he realize if the result are quite satisfactory. He then ventured to find his own supplier of biscuits and candy. What he imagined turned out to be not easy at all. Rejection after rejection must be well received by Eka. But that did not necessarily make his determination fade. Even though he knows that what he pioneered is still so young, he still persists in trying. In just two months, his efforts paid off.

Eka's success deserves a thumbs up. But when the Japanese army invaded Indonesia, the business he pioneered fell apart. There are no imported or export goods that he can sell. His business was completely paralyzed. His two thousand dollars was slowly running out because he was unemployed.

When the world seemed to be unfriendly to him, Eka continued cycling around Makassar. He want to find natural wind, until he seem hundred military Japan that supervising the Belanda Military that become captive. He really amazed with the  place, not only Belanda and Japan military, but also wheat burden, cement, sugar dan another remaining things that burdening in vain there. Even though it could still be worth to being used.

Soul entrepreneur of Eka that growth with persistent, instantly blow out. The next day, he was determined to sell food and drinks in the area. He also asked for permission to transport the remains of the accumulated goods, to be taken home. Yes, from the remnants he got, he became a lucky person. Because he can reprocess these items into needs that make money.

War that continued that didn’t know the end make the resident minimize food and another things. At this time, remaining things that eka get become very valuable. He selling with a good price, also move as contractor a grave rich peoples,build with cement and concrete that he owned. Stoped as contractor, eka trying opportunities as seller copra and bankrupt, selling sugar and bankrupt again.

Falling up and down that happens didn’t discouraging walk to trying. Has growth mentality in Eka, that persistente and resilient. Although often bankrupt, he consistent wake up find opportunities in trade. In 1979, he started Tjiwi Kimia then after 2 years has production 10 thousand ton paper. The worker continued grow, until he can buy palm land many hectare and also buy international Indonesia bank in 1982. Persistence that he owned, at the end can he enjoyed until pension. One of bussines that growing fast and make his name famous in Indonesia is bussines real estate that joined in Sinar Mas Group.
